Sian - building confidence and skills for work and life

Confident and happy Sian from Ayrshire is a world away from her former shy and anxious self. Now working in an enjoyable business admin post and planning her next career steps, Sian has a clutch of qualifications she never thought possible, as well as some memorable experiences that she will remember for a lifetime.

When the Enable Works team met Sian they saw a young woman with great potential but she was lacking some confidence in sharing that potential with the rest of the world. The Next Steps programme was the ideal support.

After working with Sian to get her National Entitlement Card things started moving in the right direction. Sian was able to travel independently and gain more confidence, as well as take up an opportunity we secured for work experience at Fossil Fields Training Centre in Auchinleck. It was here that Sian really blossomed and played a lead role in a number of upcycling projects, working with a team and growing her social skills.

This also led to Sian achieving a Level 4 Personal Development Award, which was to lead to bigger and better things ahead. We worked with Sian on her career goals and spent time working on job applications techniques as well as developing interview skills.

Sian's commitment to her own development meant that she landed an interview for the very first job she applied for- and got offered the role! She is continuing to learn a broad range of new skills with her new employer and seems a world away from her former shy self.
