Enable Brighter Future

The award-winning, social enterprise Radiant and Brighter, co-founded in 2012 by Pheona and Micheal Matovu, celebrated 12 years of togetherness at Inspire House, today, Friday 11 October.

For more than a decade, the organisation has maintained its ethical and innovative reputation, developing and delivering antiracism, diversity, inclusion, and intercultural competence programmes to minoritised communities and public, private and third sector organisations.

The celebration event was attended by invited guests and supporters of Radiant and Brighter.

A host of speakers addressed the audience including Radiant and Brighter co-founder, Pheona Matovu; Enable’s CEO Theresa Shearer FRSE; Anna Fowlie, CEO, SCVO; and Dr Karla Perez Portillo, Lecturer in Law (Anti-Discrimination Law), from Glasgow Caledonian University.

Radiant and Brighter’s Community Ambassadors documented their journey with speakers, Rhemy Merencilla and Consolata Tasinda Ogbebor, Founder of AfroBite.

Shaping and reshaping the narrative was an in-conversation led by Tynah Matembe, Founder of Moneymatix, and Dr Karla Perez Portillo, Lecturer in Law (Anti-Discrimination Law), from Glasgow Caledonian University.

Shan Saba, Director of Brighterwork Staffline & Founder Scotland Against Modern Slavery, spoke about meaningful representation.

The event finished with Satwat Rehman, CEO of One Parent Family on leadership with concluding remarks from Radiant and Brighter’s Pheona Matovu.

The celebration event was an opportunity to reflect on the journey of the community interest company, challenges it has faced as well as its many successes.

Guests listened to antiracism experts and heard from partners about their experiences of working with minoritised communities as well as being inspired by the stories of speakers.

The event aligned with Black History month’s theme, ‘Reclaiming the Narrative,’ taking place throughout the month of October and is that a nationwide campaign which Enable supports.
