2024 was the year in which we celebrated our 70th anniversary year as the charity continued to grow in impact and influence as a leading charity advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion.

Across the charity’s three pillars, we delivered self-directed health and social care support for Enable Cares, employability and training services for Enable Works, and community projects and campaigns with Enable Communities.

Founded in 1954,  we have been supporting people to live independently in the community of their choice for more than 7 decades.

Some of our highlights this year were:

In May 2024, we hosted the Europe in Action conference in Glasgow, bringing together 450 delegates from 40 countries to further disability inclusion efforts globally. Enable’s values remain steadfast, aligned with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and continue to guide our work.

Enable Cares - one of Scotland’s largest and most successful social care providers – continued to deliver 2.5m hours of social care support across 27 local authorities and worked in partnership with NHS and Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP) colleagues to support people who previously lived in hospital settings into their own homes in the community.

Enable Works, a leader in promoting disability inclusion across the UK, supported people to overcome barriers to work into well paid sustainable careers. The team was recognised winning the Diversity Through Education Award as well as its ‘Stepping Up’ programme being commended in supporting school leavers with disabilities to leave school at the coveted Herald Diversity Award in 2024. In December, All in Glasgow & IPS Dundee picked up the ERSA (Employment Related Services Association) Award at the industry event.

At the heart of Enable, Enable Communities led the charge in supporting individuals with learning disabilities to be self-advocates, working at individual, community, and national levels to drive meaningful change. The launch of our Charity Challenge was supported by members, volunteers and businesses, where fundraisers unleashed their adventurous spirit. From cycling to running, overcoming obstacles to our Kiltwalkers, our supporters raised a phenomenal £17,500 in 2023/24 from the Kiltwalk and raised £13,000 through the Enable Lottery.

In November, our Annual General Meeting (AGM) brought together members and colleagues and the day was an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our staff and our members.

2024 was a phenomenal year for Enable as we work for an equal society where everyone has the right to live, work and participate in the communities of their choice.

Thank you to our Enable team, Trustees, members, supporters and fundraisers for helping us drive change and deliver exceptional results across the charity as we continue to grow our impact for the people we work for in the years and decades to come.
